Mission: Impossible 3 on Nokia N93

October 30th, 2006 - Posted in Nokia

Nokia N93 Instead of buying the Mission: Impossible 3 DVD and then converting it to play on your mobile phone, you can think about upgrading to the Nokia N93, which will come bundled with a 512MB memory card containing the whole movie to coincide with the DVD release. The movie is free—no additional cost other than the phone!

The N93 has a 2.4″ QVGA (320×240) display, which makes for a decent device to play a full length movie on. It also has a TV-out feature, so you can actually watch the movie on your big screen, but it obviously won’t be as good as DVD or even XviD. The copy of Mission: Impossible 3 will be a 25fps mobile with stereo audio. Maybe future versions of the phones will have 5.1-channel audio, so you can expect surround sound in the mobile movies as well!

The movie will come with copy protection so it won’t be possible to copy it to another memory card. It also will not be playable on the PC. You can, however, make a backup of the movie on the PC.

As part of the Nokia Nseries, referred to by Nokia themselves as a “multimedia computer range”, the Nokia N93 is the first mobile phone to not only have a 3.2 Megapixel camera but also be capable of full-screen (640×480) video recording at a full 30 frames per second!

Taking the clam-shell design a step further, the main camera is built into the top of the phone by the hinge. The barrel-shape area at the top allows for a 3x Optical Zoom using a Carl Ziess lens, giving excellent stills-camera ability. The hinge connects on just the right side, behind the camera and allows for a secondary motion to flip the screen to the side. Hold the phone side-on whilst doing this and it becomes like a miniature video camera, and that is exactly what you have got.

Using the miniSD slot with a maximum 2GB card gives you enough storage for 90 minutes of full-screen, full-motion video, a first for any mobile. With its smart design and powerful features, it is easy to forget that you are holding a phone!

Add into the mix the multitude of other features, such as FM Radio, MP3 playback, WiFi (802.11b/g), Bluetooth, POP3/SMTP/IMAP4 e-mail support all running on the Smartphone Symbian Series 60 OS and you have one truely enviable phone!
