The flagship product in Nokia’s arsenal of new phones is the N93 which prides itself of its superb imaging capabilities. Its 3.2 megapixel camera is the highest so far offered by a Nokia phone. Pair that with other features like the Carl Zeiss optics, 3x optical zoom, up to 20x digital zoom and MPEG4 video capture of up to 30 frames per second and you’ve got a superior mobile device that can really approximate the work of a stand alone camcorder.

Steve Lewis, Nokia’s Director for Multimedia Computers in the Asia-Pacific region said: “Incorporating all the features you need for great quality movie-making, the Nokia N93 is a perfect example of a multimedia computer with true digital camcorder performance at its core. Thanks to its connectivity, it allows you to immediately share the memories you’ve captured, taking the entire camcorder experience to the Internet age.”

Unlike its predecessor, the N90, the N93 now has a larger 2.4” QVGA color display which cannot only be twisted to shoot high-definition videos, it can also be folded horizontally in landscape or panoramic mode to convert the phone into a full screen viewfinder. The display can in fact be rotated to a wide 160 degree viewing angle and has a light sensor to boot. Meanwhile, the stereo audio recording feature ensures superior sound on your videos while digital video stabilization prevents blurring or shaking while you are taking videos on the move.

With official dimensions of 118.2 x 55.5 x 28.2 mm, the N93 is triband and runs on the Symbian S60 3rd edition interface. Accessing the menu is fairly easy with an active camera toolbar that displays all the features of the came – from exposure value to scenes to color tones.

For the first time, the N93 is loaded with Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 software for Windows XP which now makes it possible for phone owners to edit, burn to DVD and export to other Web formats the videos taken from the N93.

“The video capture quality of the Nokia N93 is so good, we felt that providing users with great, easy-to-use editing and DVD-burning software was an absolute must,” said Jawahar Kanjilal, Director for MultiMedia Experiences of Nokia Asia-Pacific. He added that with Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0, owners of Nokia N93 “can experiment with hundreds of professional transitions and effects and burn the videos to DVD.” Furthermore, it will allow users to fix their digital photos on their PCs, for example by cropping, rotating and reducing red eye in a matter of seconds.

The Nokia N93’s built-in and inbox editing facilities allows one to “combine and trim clips, insert images and sound clips for that added bit of drama, or add effects like color or slow motion to really bring your film to life.” With Adobe Premiere Elements, on the other hand, you can just go to the customized menu, click on Add Media, then drag and drop your video files to the selected location. With the Transition option, you can join two clips together via effects like 3D motions, dissolving, sliding or wiping; add visual effects like blur, pixelate or ripple; as well as put in sound effects like reverb or pitch shifter.

The Adobe software enables you to export your N93 videos via the internet or email through Quick Time or Windows Media.

Other forms of sharing on the N93 include MMS, email, Bluetooth, infrared, video call, WLAN (WiFi) UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) and TV Out which lets you play back the recoded videos and photos on TV using the TV out cable.

As for audio, the N93 has a stereo FM radio; OMA DRM 2.0 support for music; digital music player and equalizer with digital music player and equalizer which utilizes the MP3, AAC, AAC+. eAAC+, & WMA formats; as well as a Nokia Music Manager PC software which will let you rip CDs then transfer them to the N93.

Internal memory for the phone is 50 MB, which can be further expanded up to 2 GB through a hot swappable mini SD card. This translates to 90 minutes of video or close to 2500 high-quality photos.
