Nokia to open first US cell phone store in Chicago
June 19th, 2006 - Posted in NokiaNokia said on Monday that it plans to open its first U.S. retail store in Chicago on Saturday in a bid to improve brand awareness among consumers here.
The store, situated in the hometown of U.S. mobile leader Motorola Inc., is part of Nokia’s global push to boost its brand, which often has to take a back seat to those of the service providers that sell its phones to consumers.
It is the first of four flagship stores that Finland’s Nokia — the world’s largest mobile phone maker — plans to open in the North America, including a New York outlet set to open in September. The company plans to open 18 stores around the world in the next two years.
Nokia’s products are already displayed at U.S. service provider stores and at consumer electronics retailers but it hopes to draw people to its own store with colorful interactive displays and a showcase of its entire U.S. product range.
