UTStarCom GF210 can work on tri-band GSM 850/1800/1900 or 900/1800/1900 MHz networks and WiFi networks, although WLAN and GPRS don’t work simultaneously, while the VoIP client allows the users to make voice calls via WiFi networks.
The candybar measures 106.5 x 44.5 x 20 mm and weighs 95 grams and has been recently approved by the US Federal Communications Commission.
Aside from the GSM and WiFi dual-mode, the mobile phone only brings a set of basic features including a 1.8 inch 65k color display, text messaging, polyphonic ringtones, call forwarding, call waiting /hold /barring /conferencing, MMS support, built-in games, a WAP browser, alarm clock, organizer, notes, calculator, measure converter, world time and stop watch, so basically, everything a basic user can’t do without when considering to purchase a mobile phone.
Actually, UTStarCom GF210 can primarily be considered a VoIP phone that also features GSM capabilities, and could prove to be a very useful and money saving device. Although more dual-mode devices are on the way, no U.S. carrier has announced a dual-mode service so far, therefore the UTStarCom GF210 might just be of use as a GSM mobile phone for now.
The UTStarCom GF210 will be released on the North American market and there is no information regarding the price of the device for now or the carrier that will offer this mobile phone, but the FCC approval means that more info should be out soon.
