Samsung delivers DVB-H handset in Italy
May 3rd, 2006 - Posted in SamsungSamsung and Telecom Italia have begun rolling out DVB-H digital terrestrial technology mobile phones for live mobile TV reception.
The SGH-P920 model is the first of its kind for Telecom Italia. In addition to supporting DVB-H, the handset runs on the UMTS network and offers multimedia functions including a 1.3 mega-pixel camera, music player, video recorder, video player and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.
Telecom Italia is to launch its mobile TV service in June on the Samsung handsets. The DVB-H-equipped units offer reception standards comparable to digital terrestrial TV.
Non-exclusive agreements with Mediaset and Telecom Italia Media hvae secured programming from Canale 5, Retequattro, Italia Uno, LA7, MTV Italia, plus Serie A TIM and Champions League football matches.
Earlier this year, Telecom Italia and Samsung announced that they are working together on WiBro (wireless broadband), the Korean company’s WiMAX mobile service brand.
