38m SMSs sent in October
December 3rd, 2006 - Posted in VoIPIn October, subscriptions to all forms of communication technology increased, with the exception of mobile telephony subscriptions, the National Statistics Office reported yesterday.
The internet subscription index rose by 0.3 per cent as at end October. Narrowband and broadband subscriptions were recorded at 58,362 and 36,674 respectively.
In the month under review, the cable and digital television subscription index rose by 0.1 per cent, underpinned by a fall in cable analogue offset by an increase in digital technology use. In absolute terms, these
subscriptions totalled 112,206.
In the month under review, a fall of 0.2 per cent was recorded in the mobile subscription index, with the number of mobile telephone subscriptions standing at 344,169.
Around 16.1 million minutes were
consumed in mobile telephone networks, while those directed from mobile to fixed-line networks amounted to around 2.2 million. In October, mobile communication traffic included around 38.0 million SMSs, 58,119 MMSs and 10,862 WAPs.
As at end of October, there was a slight increase in the fixed telephone subscription index from the previous month. Minutes consumed in fixed-line telephony on local calls amounted to around 50.1 million, with some 34.1 million minutes from residential subscriptions and the rest from business premises subscriptions. International fixed telephony traffic comprised 194,153 calls, equivalent to around 0.6 million minutes.
In the month under review, VOIP minutes were estimated at around 962,000. In absolute terms, pager subscriptions stood at 4,770.
