A contract to provide VoIP services to the Charlotte headquarters of Rack Room Shoes, a retailer of shoes, handbags and accessories, has been awarded to US communications holding company AT&T Inc (NYSE:T).

AT&T said the new contract will establish a VoIP solution with unified communications capabilities for Rack Room Shoes, enabling managers to communicate at the office, at home or on the road with a single device, phone number and e-mail account.

AT&T claimed the solution will make communication between managers and employees more mobile and seamless, helping to improve collaboration among the retailer’s departments, business units and customers.

The unified communications are expected to enable the retailer to operate more productively and efficiently, with the company able to control maintenance and service costs due to efficiencies in the overall maintenance expenses.

According to Rack Room Shoes, its existing legacy system was outdated and AT&T was able to offer the best engineering resources, with local technicians helping to implement the system in Charlotte and provide a long-term solution.
