EarthLink Evolves Its VoIP Partnership With Circuit City
August 17th, 2006 - Posted in VoIPEarthLink said Wednesday that its EarthLink trueVoice VoIP service will be offered in Circuit City stores as the telecommunications company moved to expand beyond its traditional dialup and broadband offerings.
The plug-and-play solution comes primarily in two flavors — $14.95 a month for 500 minutes in North America and $24.95 for unlimited calling throughout North America.
An EarthLink spokeswoman said that the company “has been forging new ties with electronics retailers.” In recent weeks EarthLink has launched VoIP offerings also at retailers Best Buy and OfficeMax.
The EarthLink drive places the firm in more direct competition with VoIP pacesetter Vonage, which has signed up nearly two million subscribers for its paid service. Circuit City has also been offering Vonage service in its stores.
The EarthLink service is offered with a Linksys Phone Adapter (SPA2002-ER) or a Wireless-G Router with two phone ports (WRT54GP2-ER). The EarthLink spokeswoman said subscribers using the wireless device can access the service from different computers in an office or home.
Each kit contains two ports for connecting with standard home phones or fax machines.
