Impsat Deploys Acme Packet for VoIP Services in Latin America
November 1st, 2006 - Posted in VoIPSession border control provider Acme Packet announced on Monday that it was tapped by Impsat Fiber Networks to deploy its Net-Net session border controllers (SBCs) so it can deliver a suite of VoIP products for mid and large enterprises in the Latin American corporate market. Impsat is well known throughout Latin America for its IP hosting and data services. The company’s voice network currently serves clients in Argentina, Brazil, Peru, as well as in the US.
With Acme Packet’s (News - Alert) Net-Net products in place, Impsat will be able to tailor its services into a set of different tiers so its customers have more options when choosing their communications services. Impsat might have selected Acme Packet’s Net-Net because of the suite’s Net-SAFE security features, which can help the company prevent denial of service (DoS) and other kinds of malicious attacks.
“We required a secure and controllable way to allow our services to seamlessly traverse disparate networks to support both our businessIP communication services and the interconnect services we provide to other providers,†stated Guillermo Mármora, vice president of Technology and Operations, Telephony at Impsat Fiber Networks. “Acme Packet’s unique ability to support both access and interconnect services gives us a strategic advantage by requiring only one network element to support both service types. As we continue to expand our VoIP network across Latin America, the Net-Net SBCs help us reach more customers securely and with high quality levels.â€
Today’s news comes on the heels of Impsat announcing it is being acquired by Global Crossing. In a move to fuel its plans to market its converged IP services to enterprises and carriers around the world, Global Crossing announced on Thursday that it will acquire the company for a whopping $336 million. Global Crossing expects the acquisition to bring in more than $270 million in revenue annually.
Global Crossing will pay $9.32 in cash for each share of Impsat’s common stock, which reportedly represents a total equity value of approximately $95 million. Global Crossing plans to complete the acquisition by the first quarter of 2007.
