Mozcom introduces VoIP service with webcasting technology
September 11th, 2006 - Posted in VoIPCalled the Mozcom VCall, the new VoIP service gives businessmen and entrepreneurs the advantage to use the Internet to make and receive calls to and from outside the country.
Mozcom, the country’s first commercial ISP, got its license to operate VoIP service last August from the National Telecommunications Commission.
To use the VoIP service, one must create a VCall account. This can be done by visiting the website, www.vcall.ph and signing up for free. The website has step-by-step instructions from creating an account to making calls.
As soon as the VCall account has been activated and loaded with credits, one can start calling using the installed and configured Internet phone.
A Mozcom VCall Internet Phone card is used to load credits to a VCall account. The card is available in R100 or R500 denominations and can be purchased at card stores or online at http://store.mozcom.com.
The VCall’s audio conferencing tool also users to meet online via audio collaboration. Anyone with a VCall account can request for and participate in a scheduled audiocon.
However, only VCall plan subscribers can initiate or conduct audio conferences. The participants would just need to dial the audiocon contact number and go through the voice-activated registration to join.
But according to Mozcom founder Dr. William “Bill” Torres, who is sometimes referred to as the “Father of Philippine Internet” for his pioneering role in establishing Mozcom, the other main strength of the VCall service is its ability to combine with webcasting technology.
Through Mozcom VCS (video conferencing and streaming), users can share presentation materials and applications and do a webcast to be seen and heard across the globe. A user, however, must pay a separate subscription for the webcasting service in order to use the twin feature.
With the combined audio and webcasting services, viewers of the webcast can give feedback or engage into group discussions to talk about what they see on their desktops or laptops.
“VoIP is the way to go, that’s why we’re into in,” said Torres. “It’s also a way for smaller guys, such as independent ISPs like us, to remain competitive against bigger telcos because we’re faster in offering newer technologies.”
The Mozcom VCall subscription plan is offered R750 a month. The package includes a fixed VoIP number uniquely identified with the subscriber. The subscriber is also entitled to discounts for Mozcom VCS.
