Taiwan sets up ViTA Forum to certify VoIP products
July 14th, 2006 - Posted in VoIPThe Taiwan government-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and seven other organizations and companies have jointly formed the ViTA Forum, dedicated to establishing a set of certification standards for related VoIP products.
The seven other initial members of the ViTA Forum are: Telecom Technology Center, Taiwan International Standard Electronics (TAISEL), Taiwan Telecommunication Network Services (TTN), Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), Digital United (Seednet), D-Link and Accton Technology.
Initially, the ViTA Forum will aim to issue its certification to IP phones, VoIP gateways and other CPE (customer premise equipment) products. It will then extend its certification process to include business end products such as IP/PBX, according to a July 13 Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report, citing sources at the forum.
The ViTA Forum hopes that its certification mark will be recognized in overseas markets, wherever sales of branded products are initiated by D-Link, Accton and TAISEL (a 60%-own subsidiary of Alcatel), and that eventually ViTA will be a certified mark in the global IP telecom market.
