Around 71% of Middle Eastern enterprises either have deployed or are planning to deploy IP telephony, according to a survey from Avaya taken during a recent regional roadshow.

The telephony and network vendor said the survey of 1,000 decision makers from regional organisations showed 55% of enterprises questioned had already deployed a converged voice and data network. Of the remainder, more than half will be implementing VoIP systems within the next year.

“The IT managers who participated in our survey provided information that will be critical to us as we plan for the future,” said Nidal Abou Ltaif, managing director of Avaya Middle East.

“Understanding their plans and challenges can help us continue to provide the kinds of intelligent communications solutions companies need to transform their operations.”

Mobile vendor Nokia also took part in the regional tour, which was intended to introduce businesses to the benefits of converged telephony. Nokia has recently released a range of handsets which offer VoIP capabilities, alongside normal GSM service.
