VoIP windfall for PC Range

A boon in VoIP take-up over the past year has seen peripherals distributor, PC Range, increase its compatible router sales by over 40 per cent.

The company distributes Billion-branded VoIP broadband routers.

Managing director, Raaj Menon, attributed the growth to a better market understanding of VoIP technology.

“Previously VoIP products were a lot harder to use. Now it’s become much easier and quicker to set up,” he said. “The more people educated in the product, the more they are asking for it.”

Menon said VoIP take-up was being driven by the SOHO and residential markets. These customers were looking for ways to take advantage of cheaper calls offered by ISPs. He forecast growth would continue to stem from these sectors.

High-end routers priced around $200 had proved the most popular, followed by low-entry level ADSL routers. The distributor’s best performing model was the 7404 VGP.

“We sell more VoIP routers now than what we sell with our other non-VoIP brand models,” Menon said. “We will probably look at supplying more routers without ADSL built-in and ATA devices by themselves because there is already a big market for them.”
