Sierra Wireless 597E EVDO ExpressCard (Sprint)
April 1st, 2008 - Posted in Wireless
Leveraging the latest high-speed EV-DO Revision A technology, the ExpressCard 597E provides maximum wide area wireless data access at speeds up to 3.1 Mbps downlink and 1.8 Mbps uplink. Users can also expect average upload speeds of 300 to 500 Kbps, along with download speeds of 450 to 1.4 Mbps. In areas where EV-DO Rev A is not available, the AirCard 597E is backward-compatible to EV-DO Revision 0 and CDMA 1X technology. The fast EV-DO Revision A network speeds provide a rich experience for a wide variety of applications, including increased e-mail speed when downloading large files; Internet/intranet access; video conferencing and surveillance; real-time media streaming; online gaming; corporate server (using VPN) access, and location-based services (LBS).
Sprint Connectivity
Before checkout, choose the Sprint Internet plan that's right for you. The 597E is compatible with Sprint's mobile broadband connection plans, which means you can access the information you require to work efficiently outside the office. Sprint's Power Vision network gives you the freedom to stay productive and connected whether you're on the road or in a meeting across town with broadband-like connection speeds. You will also receive access to Sprint's slower national network when outside the Power Vision coverage area.
Design
The ExpressCard 597E is a sleek, stylish solution that supports the new Notebook PCs with industry-standard ExpressCard/34 and ExpressCard/54 slots. The AirCard 597E boasts a fixed, internal antenna with no moving parts, high-strength plastics, and a sleek low-profile industrial design for maximum ruggedness and reliability.
Sierra Wireless also unveiled a new patented antenna design for the ExpressCard 597E. Thanks to the highly efficient and receptive antenna, the 597E provides end users with the fastest, most reliable connections, with improved speeds and extended coverage through better network signal acquisition in low-signal-strength areas. The 597E also offers a robust antenna connector for attaching an optional external antenna.
The ExpressCard 597E includes a built-in GPS antenna and support for location based services (LBS). For example, users can acquire accurate mapping directions to client appointments or the closest restaurant using the GPS and LBS functions, which determines the exact location of the modem and calculates all the directions accordingly.
Installation
Sierra Wireless's fully supported software developer's kit (SDK) and forum provides application developers with the tools needed to develop custom enterprise applications with the ExpressCard 597E. Development efforts will be backwards-compatible with the Sierra Wireless lineup of EV-DO Revision A products, including PC cards, ExpressCards, and USB Modems.
The ExpressCard 597E comes with easy-to-install, easy-to-use Watcher software that provides a common look and feel across all Sierra Wireless products. The ExpressCard displays all the familiar parameters: signal strength, byte counter, network type, and other connection details, along with a detailed help file to enhance the user experience.
